"Rite to Sight" was started whilst on the Holgate epic Land Rover expedition to follow the Tropic of Capricorn around the world, Gill Holgate (Mashozi) met with an elderly poor-sighted man in the remote Amazon region of South America’s Brazil.

He lived in a national park and was about to be removed from the area because officials believed with his poor sight, he may fall in the river and drown. Mashozi handed him her own pair of readers, he put them on and there were tears of joy when he could see his granddaughter clearly for the very first time. This was the start of Mashozi’s Rite to sight campaign, the distribution of ready reader spectacles to the poor sighted.

South Africa boasts one of the most clean water systems in the world, however due to the lack of sanitation and access in the country's rural communities the threat of water- borne disease is steadily increasing. Water filters have been shown to be the most effective interventions amongst all point-of-use water treatment methods for reducing diarrhoeal diseases. Lack of access to safe drinking water contributes to the staggering burden of diarrhoeal diseases worldwide, particularly affecting the young, the immuno-compromised and the poor. Nearly one in five child deaths – about 1.5 million each year – is due to diarrhoea.

Namibia Desert Seal Campaign. The world's largest and cruelest marine mammal slaughter of 85,000 still-nursing baby seal pups begins annually on July 1st in Namibia. For 139 days, terrified pups will be rounded up, separated from their mothers, and brutally beaten to death for their pelts - a CITES protected species, killed in a seal reserve every day just hours before tourists come to view the remaining colony. Inhumane, illegal, unsustainable and unethical, many conservation groups violently oppose the slaughter. While filming the cull is illegal, Sea Shepherd, who has a long legacy of defending seals around the world, aims to end this slaughter once and for all.
